Podcast Goes to a Typical English University

Tom Paine, Brian of London and others 2008-08-19 18:55 UTC 1  comment  ·  ·  ·

Douglas Murray, the Director of the Centre for Social Cohesion think tank, joins us for a talk about the latest report from his think tank. It's a bombshell report on the attitudes of Muslim students in the UK.

It makes for exceptionally disturbing reading

Douglas Murray says many of the Muslim leaders in Britain who constantly complain about their faith being depicted as being at odds with the country's values seem to not be aware that it's often they themselves who go out of their way to give people precisely that impression.

Do go to the center's website and download the whole report in PDF format.

In Blog News we talk about the difference in style between Obama and McCain when answering questions like, does evil exist. Obama is not sure what to do about it. McCain knows.

More jihadis are caught and convicted in the UK. World Yawns.

Your humble host, Brian of London, signed the petition to ask the UK government to bin the EU "treaty". This week Gordon Brown said no:

The Irish government has made it clear that they need time to analyse the result and its implications, and to consult widely at home and abroad.  At the European Council on 19/20 June, EU Heads of State and Government agreed with the Irish Government’s proposal that they should reflect on the result of the referendum and then submit a report to the European Council in October.  In the meantime the Council, including Ireland, has noted that the ratification processes are continuing in all of the other Member States.

This week we continue a deep and meaningful discussion that ranges across the political spectrum. Douglas Murray andNickCohenjoin Tom Paine to disucuss the failures on both Left and Right to come to terms with a Jihadi threat.

On the Right we have Douglas Murray, the director of the think tank, CentreforSocial Cohesion and the author of "Neo-Conservatism:WhyWeNeed It".

From the Left, broadly speaking, as he's not on good terms with most of his former comrades just at present,isBritishjournalist Nick Cohen, author of "What's Left: How Liberals Lost their Way".

This is the second of a two part disucssion and should not be missed. They explore the failing of the left and of partsoftheright to come to terms with the real enemy everyone is facing. You can find part one here.

In blog news this week I talk about the "Free Speech in an age of Jihad" conference I attended. Atlas Shrugs has much more about it.

Free Speech is now officially under attack, and as some of the Canuck Six are just private citizens with little corporatebacking, do please visit Small DeadAnimals and Five Feet of Fury

And seeing as we'reliving in the 21st century with this her newfangled internet thingy, you can also buy the t-shirt.

If you don't believe us about the banning of Jerusalem, the DailyMail has the story.

We have our regular chat with Evan Sayet and you can pre-order his newbook on Amazon

Meryl Yourish is also back on the show with a rant about Carter

Podcast walks knowingly into Room 101 with Douglas Murray

Douglas Murray, self proclaimed neo-conservative, is on the show again this week. We spoke to Douglas back on episode 99 and  episode 77. He is the founder of the Center for Social Cohesion and the author of "Neo-Conservatism: Why We Need It". He's leading the next charge to defeat the British Government when a bill to outlaw the criticism of religious ideas is brought back to the House.

This week in blog news we have an education story from Australia that is nothing short of a left wing inspired nightmare. More details can be found at smh.com.au.

We're also talking about the election of  an "ex-islamist". Just try googling for "ex-islamist".

The Brussels Journal has the low down on the banning of a march protesting the islamisation of Eurabia. Also take a look at the web site for Stop the Islamisation of Europe.

The story about the Israeli Ambassador, Yehuda Avner, presenting his credentials came from Israellycool Dave's excellent blog.

This week I also played an extract from the American Jihad Podcast. This one had me laughing for ages so I hope it does the same for you.

Tom Paine's special piece is available as a YouTube clip:

Podcast and Douglas Murray break future laws and think criticism of religious beliefs is necessary

On the 99th edition of Shire Network News we interview the author and commentator, Douglas Murray. We spoke to Douglas back on episode 77. Since then he's founded the Center for Social Cohesion. He's leading the next charge to defeat the British Government when a bill to outlaw the criticism of religious ideas is brought back to the House.

Meryl's excellent blog had more on the Hamas story about Violins.

The story about the Australian parliament being too Christian is too much to believe. Read about it in the Australian.

National Review has the article by Mark Steyn with the title I mention in Blog News.

If you want to sign a petition over at the 10 Downing Street site, you can look here.

We have contributions from regulars Meryl Yourish and Doug Payton. Be sure to visit their blogs.

Podcast and Douglas Murray drop kick Ken Livingstone into touch

Tom Paine, Brian of London and others 2007-02-04 19:37 UTC 8 comments  ·  ·  ·  ·  ·

This week we put the boot in to Ken Livingstone with the aid of Daniel Pipe's debate sidekick: Douglas Murray. But don't let that fool you: Douglas Murray delivered all the best lines. Douglas Murray is the author of "Neo-Conservatism: Why We Need It"

To play the podcast, please use the control on the right hand side of the page: Play Podcast

Douglas Murray's recent book, Neo Conservatism: Why We Need It is a defence of the most controversial political philosophy of our era. Douglas Murray takes a fresh look at the movement that replaced Great-Society liberalism, helped Ronald Reagan bring down the Wall, and provided the intellectual rationale for the Bush administration's War on Terror. While others are blaming it for foreign policy failures and, more extremely, attacking it as a Jewish cabal, Murray argues that the West needs Neo-conservatism more than ever. In addition to explaining what Neo conservatism is and where it came from, he argues that this American-born response to the failed policies of the 1960s is the best approach to foreign affairs not only for the United States but also for Britain and the West as well. of the most controversial political philosophy of our age.

The whole debacle of the Little Green Balloons can be followed in great length on Meryl's blog here.

The Community Security Trust report mentioned can be found on their website here. I found the comments at Harry's Place interesting too.

President Chirac's indiscreet comments have also been widely reported.

Meryl Yourish is giving us birth control tips. "Pull Out Now!". She borrows liberally from Age of Hooper for her clips and many of these can be found (if you have the stomach) here.

Mayors are for making the buses and trains run on time. At a push they should promote the city to foreign investment. Declaring that Israel should never have been created is not part of the job description.

Damian Penny is taking a break.

Laurence Simon is done. For now.
